The Home Ignition Zone (HIZ) Pilot Program is provided free of charge from the Fire Safe Council of Santa Cruz County (FSCSCC). Upon request, a volunteer HIZ Assessor will visit the site and conduct a guided walk through with the
resident in order to provide real-time feedback and address any questions or concerns specific to the property. The assessment provides educational information related to Home Hardening and Defensible Space to the resident.
The goal of this assessment is to:
- Improve my awareness of existing conditions/and or hazards in and around my home that may be susceptible to wildfire
- Receive modification recommendations from the assessor to lessen my home’s (and its occupants’) risk from wildfire
- Prevent injuries and loss of life
- Prevent property damage and loss
If you are interested in signing up for this program, please complete the form below.
Please note: Due to staffing constraints, we are not currently serving the areas of Bonny Doon, Aptos, Corralitos, or Watsonville. If you live in these areas and wish to have an HIZ assessment done, please check back periodically to see if our current active zone has expanded. If you live in Bonny Doon, you can contact the Bonny Doon Fire Safe Council at http://www.bdfsc.org/ and have an assessment completed through them.
